The deep voice rumbled down the hallway of Evelyn’s apartment. Two men in black suits stood outside, pressing the intercom. As Evelyn opened the door slightly, surprised, they forced their way in.
Evelyn stepped back. "What are you doing?!"
Behind them stood a familiar figure—Alexander Hartford, William’s father. Cold, immaculate, and holding a small briefcase.
"Apologies for not making an appointment," he said with a mocking tone. "But sometimes, important matters don’t require pleasantries."
Evelyn’s gaze sharpened. "If this is about William, I think you should speak to him directly."
