He received an identical text from Kiera, identical to the one his brother had said Chloe received.

The kidnappers must be sending the message to her recent contacts so no one would suspect her disappearance.

This only means that they were not just planning on kidnapping her or they’d have made her disappearance known and expect a ransom. This could be a murder.
