“Does anyone else think this idea is awful?” Nixon asked.
“You’re not helping, Nixon,” Pat said.
I sat in the driver’s seat of the car with Nash. We were in an empty parking lot, and he was teaching me how to drive.
“Okay, remember what I taught you.”
“Check my mirrors. Start the car. Put my foot on the brake and put the car in gear. Then tap the accelerator.”
“Good.” He nodded.
I did, but instead of reversing, I put it in drive and floored it.
“Hit the brakes!”
I slammed on the brakes. Nash threw the car into park.
