The hospital released Maverick, and our dad and uncles headed home. They said they had to take care of something at home.
I helped Maverick into his house and got him settled into bed. Once he was all situated, I sat with him.
“It’ll be okay,” I told Maverick.
“You won’t look at me differently, will you?”
“No, why?”
“I don’t want you to see me differently.”
