I stood quietly by the large floor-to-ceiling window in Lucian Voss’s office, my arms tightly crossed over my chest like I was holding myself together. My own reflection stared back at me in the glass, faint and pale, like a ghost of the woman I used to be. Behind me, the city looked calm and peaceful. Tall buildings stretched into the sky, their windows glowing with life, while the hum of traffic and the movement of people went on as usual.
But nothing inside me was calm.
