The sunlight came gently through the curtains. It wasn’t too bright, just soft and golden, like a quiet promise of peace. The rays fell across the bed, dancing over Siena’s skin as she slept curled beside me. Her bare back rose and fell with each slow breath. Her hair was a little messy, like a wild halo spread out over the pillow. Some strands tickled my chin, but I didn’t move.
I just lay there. Still. Quiet. Watching her.
