I pounded on the door until my knuckles split and bled.
"Roosevelt, please!" I yelled, my throat raw. "Open the door! Let me explain!"
Silence.
No sound came from inside the apartment. No footsteps, no crying, just the heavy, suffocating silence of a woman who had completely shut me out of her heart.
