I slowly opened my eyes, blinking against the bright, harsh fluorescent lights shining down from the ceiling, the smell of hospital bleach filled my nose, making me groan softly as I tried to sit up.

"Hey, hey, take it easy, my love. Just lie back down," Zyran’s deep, soothing voice murmured beside my ear, his hand gently pushed my shoulder back against the pillows.

I turned my head and saw him sitting in a chair next to the hospital bed. His eyes looked very tired, but they shone with relief as he brought my hand to his lips and kissed my knuckles.
