Piet is abruptly awake at the shrill ringing of the cell phone, fighting with the mosquito net that surrounds his bed; he grabs the phone and succeeds in knocking it flying across the floor, where it slides under the cupboard.

“Nee fok, nou soek jy kak.” He bends and pushes the phone out from under the cupboard. He picks it up and notices that the ringing has stopped; he brings it to his ear.
