As I gaze at Rose, sleeping peacefully in bed,

My heart swells with love and protection, filling my head.

I lean down, brushing my lips against her forehead so bright,

"Good morning, beautiful," I whisper, gentle, without a fight.

Then I turn and leave the room, seeking Claire's shining light,

My little girl, full of joy, my heart takes flight.

"Claire, sweetie," I ask, serious, "do you want a new sister to love?"

Claire's face lights up, "Yes! Yes!" she squeals, bouncing up and down from above.
