She shushed me. “It’s fine, Isaiah. What matters is that we’re here now, right?”

I walked over to my bed as Zira showed me how to lay him down without waking him up. I pulled up a chair next to the bed to sit and watched him as he slept.
“Are you seriously going to watch him?” she asked, laughing softly.
