I asked him in disbelief, "Are you saying we're going to spend the night sleeping in an elevator?"

He said, without even glancing at me, "Thank goodness you've already figured it out.

"I mean, if we're stuck here much longer, we might end up suffocating in this confined space," I remarked, scanning the confines of the elevator nervously.

"Then don't you think you might already be feeling suffocated by now?" he retorted, with a hint of arrogance in his voice.

"look up" he sighed, as if I wasn't getting him.

"It's connected to the atmosphere outside for in case of emergency" he explained as he kept quiet.
