Lily’s POV

We walked back into the house in silence.

Mia stayed half a step behind me the entire way, still pale, still trembling slightly from what had happened on the cliff. Every few seconds I heard the soft drag of her feet on the gravel, like her legs didn’t want to carry her any farther. The night air clung to my skin, damp and cold, but it was nothing compared to the ice sitting in my chest. I kept my eyes forward. I didn’t look at her. I couldn’t. If I looked at her now I might start screaming again, and I was too tired for that.
