After a few seconds of staring at the completely blank screen, Rodriguez cleared his throat and broke the silence.

"Call him again,” Jane interrupted, not quite sure what the negotiator was about to say. Her voice was thin but held so much urgency and with the way Caleb quickly began to tap his screen to call Xavier back, she knew they both thought the same thing: if they didn't speak with Xavier before their deadline elapsed, things could go really sour.

Thankfully, Xavier answered again and his sneering face filled the screen.
