As the words leave my lips, Ares’s features contort into a mixture of remorse and guilt. Twisting in my seat, I stare at the surroundings that I didn’t really bother to take in.
It’s beautiful. Flowers, balloons, romantic lighting...Ares has set up the perfect birthday date. But since it’s with him, it’s far from perfect.
“I know,” he murmurs, running a hand through his hair and staring at his plate. My eyes flicker down to mine and I see that it’s my favorite--a shrimp cocktail and a caesar salad.
