I didn't think. I just ran.

Delilah's name tore out of my throat as I chased after her, the world blurring around me. She didn't stop, didn't slow, didn't even look back. Her steps were fast and uneven, like she was fighting not to collapse right there in the hallway.

"Delilah!" I called again, breath sharp. "Please...wait!"

She shoved her way into the east wing corridor, and the moment I turned the corner, I saw her crumble against the wall, fists pressed to her eyes, shoulders shaking violently.

My heart cracked open.

"Delilah..." I reached for her, but she jerked away like my touch burned her.
