  “Uh-huh, you know there's no resumption without a back-to-campus partaaaaaaaay.” Bria cried in delight.

  And that was when it clicked.

  Our college's annual back-to-campus party was tonight, and I had totally been swept up in Jake's web to have remembered or noticed anything.

  Great, Zoey. I inwardly mock-applauded myself for officially losing my mind because of that jackass. 

  Still, I didn't feel up to it, but I knew Bria and my other friends from college will have my neck for it, so I needed to play my cards right.

  Faking a cough, I started,

  “Oh, you see, that's great, but I suddenly woke up with the flu today.”
