Peyton felt vulnerable opening herself up to him like that when she didn’t know how he felt about her, but she was done playing games with men. It was what had gotten her into trouble with Dale. She had tried too hard and had manipulated him into something that he obviously didn’t want. The only way that she could have something real with Finn was if she was honest with him from the start. And if that meant she scared him off, then so be it. She didn’t want to be with someone who needed to be manipulated to want to be with her.
