The look on Wilson’s face stopped me cold. His eyes widened with a recognition I hadn’t expected, and I could feel the air shift between us, heavy with something I couldn’t quite name.

He stared at the ring in my hand as if it held answers neither of us was ready to hear.

I got up from the floor, my legs feeling shaky, and moved toward him. “Wilson,” I began, my voice trembling. “Eric told me… he said he took that ring off the man he set me up with that night.”
