CHAPTER ONE
The elevator doors slid open with a sharp chime. I smoothed my skirt, exhaling slowly before stepping onto the executive floor.
First day. New job. New boss.
And apparently, the most impossible man on the planet.
I knocked once on the glass door before pushing it open.
“Miss Carter,” his voice cut sharp through the room, low and commanding, “you’re late.”
I froze. “It’s eight fifty-five. I was told nine—”
“Do you want to argue with me on your first day?” He didn’t even look up from his laptop, just flicked his hand dismissively.
Heat rushed to my cheeks. “No, sir.”
Finally, he lifted his eyes.
