Chapter 1

The rink was freezing, but sweat still slid down my neck.

I wasn’t here for hockey. I didn’t even like hockey. But my best friend dragged me along to “support the team.” Which was code for: drool over the guys in helmets and pads.

I rolled my eyes and leaned on the rail, watching players collide like they were trying to kill each other.

Then I saw him.

Number 17. The captain.

Everyone shouted his name—Cole Hart. He was fast, sharp, brutal on the ice. Every movement screamed control. My chest tightened just watching him.

When the whistle blew, he ripped off his helmet....
