Chapter 1

The bet started the way most stupid things started between Dani and Cole — too much wine, a Friday night with nowhere to be, and a conversation that took a turn neither of them had mapped out.

They had been friends for four years. The kind of friends who knew each other's coffee orders and worst habits and exactly which buttons not to press. They had lived three floors apart in the same building for two of those four years which meant they had also accumulated a specific domestic familiarity — spare keys, borrowed groceries, showing up unannounced because announcing felt unnecessarily formal.
