Sage had rescheduled three times.

The first time she told herself it was because of work. The second time she said she wasn't feeling well. The third time she just stared at the confirmation email for twenty minutes and closed her laptop and made tea she didn't drink.

But she had paid the deposit and the deposit was nonrefundable and more than that she was tired of being the person who wanted something and kept finding reasons not to have it.
