The family’s grand living room was filled with the sound of papers rustling. Ronald, Rosemary’s stepfather, sat in the main chair dressed in a black suit, while Mariana stood triumphantly beside him. On the table, legal documents lay neatly stacked, stamped and freshly signed by the notary.
“Starting today,” Ronald declared loudly, “all of my father’s assets—his house, his land, his shares—are under our control. There is no longer any so-called right for someone who doesn’t know her place.”
Mariana smirked. “At least now, everything is safe in the hands of those who deserve it.”
