As they passed him by, Jayden was not looking at the six of them, but I could see his jaw clenching and his fingers wringing over the handle of the bag. Worry clouded my heart as I stepped out of the doorway and into the elevator lobby to let the six guys through. In my head, I sent out a short prayer to whoever might hear it, hoping that if this night didn't bring any luck, at least it wouldn't turn out badly or painfully.
