The nurse frowned, clearly worried. “Dr. Newton, your injuries really should be treated at a hospital. Otherwise, they might leave scars.”
William Newton reached behind him and brushed his hand over the raw flesh on his back. Sticky. Hot. Painful. He didn’t even need to look to know that the skin was torn open.
“Mind your own business.” His tone cracked with irritation. “Tell the driver to stop. I’m getting off.”
The nurse, offended after being snapped at for trying to help, folded her arms.
“You can get off, sure. But you’ll still need to pay for the ambulance.”
William’s jaw tightened. “I didn’t even call for this damn ambulance.”...
