I watched as the guard walked Julie toward me. She looked gaunt. Her eyes were sunken and they looked almost lifeless. I could also tell that she had lost weight. Hadn't they been feeding her well?

As she got closer, I noticed that she had bruises and cuts all over her face, neck, and arms. They looked severe. Did she get into a fight with her inmate? But what could she possibly have done to warrant such an assault?
