Eden stood by the drawer, her fingers still white-knuckled around the handle.

Cassian didn't move immediately. He stood exactly where he had when he commanded the room to clear, a terrifying silhouette of absolute authority.

The faint tremor in the air, the invisible pressure of his Alpha aura gradually receded, pulled back under a terrifyingly rigid display of control.

Then, he crouched.

Eden's breath hitched as he went down on one knee. He began to pick up the amulet pieces one by one.

His hands were steady. That steadiness was the most unsettling thing about him.
