“Like I said,” Lauren started, her voice calm but her expression focused on me like she wasn’t ready to let the topic slide, “let’s start with your ex. I saw the way you reacted when I first brought up the topic, and you told me you were faithful to her once, a few days ago. So… what exactly happened?”

  She asked it gently, but there was firmness in her tone. She wanted answers, and somehow I knew she deserved them.
