I see the spires of the Dark Forest castle as my car approaches. It feels like I’ve left my whole world back in Chestnut Pack.

But clearly, Freya needs time to adjust to our mate bond. I could see that she was uncomfortable with my presence, and my attempts to talk to her before brunch were met with such an icy chill, I wasn’t aware someone could have such a reaction to a mate’s presence.

I’m not sure what to do with a mate who doesn’t want me. I won’t reject her. But I won’t accept a bond that’s not mutual.

All I can do is give her time....
