Jessica releases me and keeps me at arm's length, her piercing eyes scanning my body. I'm sure she's looking for wounds.
" you're OK, Susan."
"My neck is tight, I'm weary, and I'm hungry."
Jessica chuckles as she lifts my shoulders to open the front door. When I turn behind, I see David leaning against the SUV, watching me and his mother. I don't cry out to him before entering the mansion since I know he'll follow me.
The home is silent. Jessica brings me to the dining hall.
"Who's there?" I doubt.
"David decided not to invite anybody to dinner because of what happened to you."
My brows furrow....
