My hands shook as I dialed Jace’s number again. The phone rang and rang, but he didn’t pick up. My chest tightened. Why wouldn’t he answer? I needed him to believe me. I needed him to know that the woman in that hospital video wasn’t me.

“Who are you calling, babe?” Kelvin asked from beside me.
