“I’m not blushing,” he protested, which only made him look more adorable.

“You are,” I said with a soft laugh. “It’s okay. I think it’s sweet that you care so much.”

“Stop teasing me,” he muttered, starting the car again.

In the fading light, his profile was striking. He had a strong jaw, a straight nose, and eyes that could be as cold as ice or as warm as summer, depending on the person he was looking at.

“Jace?” I said softly.

“Hmm?”

“Thank you. For caring about me.”

He glanced at me briefly before returning his eyes to the road. “Of course I care about you, Celeste.”
