My heart cracked. Actually cracked. I could feel it breaking inside my chest.

“Are you saying I lost my brain?” I asked. Tears filled my eyes, but I blinked them back. “Are you saying I’m crazy? That I don’t know what happened to my own body?”

“I didn’t say that—”

“You did!” I shouted. Pain shot through my wounds, but I didn’t care. “You just did! You’re calling me a liar!”

All this time, I thought he was here because he cared about me. I thought the way he held my hand and stayed by my side meant something. I thought maybe, just maybe, he felt the same way...
