On the other end of the line, Jace’s voice was dark with fury.

“Every word,” he said. “Record everything, Celeste. Every conversation. We’re going to need it.”

“She’s planning to kill your father,” I replied, my voice shaking now that I was alone. “Jace, she’s actually going to—”

“I know,” he stated. “But now we have proof. Now we know she’s working with someone—a business rival who wants to destroy my father’s company.”

“She wouldn’t tell me his name.”

“She will eventually,” Jace muttered. “She trusts you now. Keep playing along. Keep pretending you’re on her side.”
