Then she walked away.
I stood there, frozen. Watching her disappear down the hallway.
“Ha!” The scream tore from my throat the moment she was out of sight.
I collapsed, falling to my knees on the cold hotel floor. Something wet touched my cheek. I reached up and touched my face. Tears. I was crying.
I stared at the wetness on my fingers in disbelief. When was the last time I cried? Ten years ago? Fifteen?
Why was I crying now? More tears came, and I couldn’t stop them. They poured down my face, and my shoulders shook.
