My Beta was looking at me expectantly, probably expecting me to jump through the roof with the news that he had just given me but instead of doing it I just returned my eyes back to my desk and opened up my laptop typing away as if he had not said anything at all.

He was looking completely struck with shock as if he couldn't believe his eyes and probably because he couldn't he might have been able to imagine that somebody that I had been craving to see for several years had been spotted right across the street and I had no interest in seeing her.
