I glanced at the rearview mirror, and our eyes met. For a brief second, it felt like Conrad could sense my suspicion. I quickly looked away.
“Why?” I asked quietly.
“Ma’am, please don’t report this to Mr. Blackwood,” he said quickly. “If he finds out I left you unattended and a reporter got close to you, I’ll lose my job. I don’t want to be fired.”
Oh. My fingers slacked against my phone.
Silence stretched between us.
