The air inside the motel room on Mercer was thick with the smell of blood and disinfectant.
I slammed the door shut behind me, my eyes locking onto the twin beds in the center of the dim room. Tony was lying flat on his back, his face a sickly pale color, while Caleb hovered over him, his hands covered in blood as he worked a suture needle.
When the lock clicked, Caleb glanced back at me for a split second, his face tight with panic, before turning straight back to Tony. Tony’s glazed eyes rolled toward me, a weak smile touching his lips.
