Then came a gentle knock on the door. “Ashriel.”

That voice. It wasn’t my Mom’s. But it was familiar.

It was Riley’s.

I didn’t respond until there was another gentle knock again. Rolling my eyes, I got out of bed and went straight ahead to open the door.
