EMBER’S POV

“I need to run to the clinic.”

Knox looks up from his phone, distracted by whatever security nightmare Nathaniel is updating him on.

“Everything okay?”

“Dr. Patel has fresh bandages ready for Rayana’s dressing change.” I grab my jacket from the back of the chair. “Figured I’d pick them up before the nurse gets here.”

“Want me to come with you?”

“And leave Rayana unsupervised?” I raise an eyebrow. “She’ll probably rearrange your entire office out of spite. Or seduce the room service guy just to have an audience.”

That earns me a small smile, tired but real.

“Fair point. Hurry back?”

“Always.”
