We have a teacher-parent meeting at school today, so we don't have class. Mya is freaking out because she failed chemistry. I failed, too, but I'm not worried since no one checks my grades or shows up for meetings.

“Thank the Lord I don’t have to worry about that,” I say, watching Mya pace in an empty classroom. She stops and stares at me.

“Trust me, my mother will scold you for failing four subjects,” she says, and my mouth drops open.
