Moments after sending the text, Casper called me back.

“Hello, Mia. The Professor Ronald you mentioned—is he the ALS specialist I think he is?”

“Yes. I told my teacher about your brother last night. He’s taking you and your brother to the medical conference. Ronald is his friend. He can help your brother.”

Casper said happily, “Thank you.”

“Aren’t you going to ask who my teacher is?”

“Hoyles, right?”

“How did you know?!”

Casper’s voice came through warmly. “I told you your eyes are unforgettable. When I saw the news about Hoyles’ apprentice online, I knew ‘Kai’ was you.”
