We hated each other from day one.

Avery moved into the dorm room three weeks into freshman year after her original roommate dropped out. She showed up with a black duffel bag, a box of vinyl records, and a smirk that made me want to slap her on sight. I had already claimed the left side of the room. My bed, my desk, my fairy lights strung above the headboard like I owned the place. She dropped her bag on the right bed and said, “Nice setup. Too bad I’m about to ruin it.”
