I had hoped last night changed something between Lucan and me. For twenty-four hours, it did. But by the next morning, he had reverted to his old way.
Maybe even worse.
I had long given up on sleeping in his room, choosing to sleep in mine instead. It made no sense to stay somewhere you weren’t welcomed, and I wasn’t going to push it again.
We no longer ran together; I barely saw Lucan nowadays, and I often wished I had smacked him the last time I saw him when he was sprouting promises that he couldn’t keep, and I hated that I had believed him.
