Kira leaned forward a bit as I sat by her side on the bed. She looked pale, and her eyes were slightly reddish. In theory, heat sounded like a good thing. You had insane sexual urges, and you got to spend days in bed with your mate. 

In reality, it was a nightmare, especially for someone like Kira. When the heat remained unfulfilled, it was like the body was warring with itself. She would have a fever and other symptoms that would only get progressively worse until either her body got the memo and shut it down, or her mate helped her with it.
