Ethel's mother probably didn't expect Ethel to say such words.
She angrily slapped Ethel. "How could you say such shameless things?"
Ethel, covering her face in grievance, retorted, "How am I shameless? I just want something of my own. You were taken by another man, can't I take someone else's man?"
After her outburst, Ethel turned and ran out of the inn.
Seeing this, Ethel's mother apologized to Trish while repeatedly glancing towards the door. "I'm sorry, Trish. Please leave me your contact information. Once I've sorted things out here, I'll come to apologize in person."
