I stared at the financial reports scattered across my desk, my mind engrossed in the numbers and projects. Suddenly, my phone rang, shattering the silence. I hesitated before answering, hoping it wasn't another interruption.

"Eva?" I said, concern evident in my voice.

Silence.

"Hello? Are you there?" I repeated.

No response.

The line went dead.

My worry grew as I tried calling Eva back, but she didn't pick up. I sent a text: "Hey, what's going on? Are you alright?"

Eva obviously saw and read the message but didn't reply.

My anxiety escalated. Just then, my secretary walked in.

"What's going on, Miss Evelyn? You can't just barge in...
