“What is going on? What are the officers talking about? That I tried to kill your father?”

I glanced down at the cuffs on my mom's wrists, and my chest tightened with despair. It felt as though my whole world crumbled around me as seeing my mom treated like a criminal made me so angry, yet I couldn't do a single thing to help her.

“Why would I do such a thing? Why am I being accused falsely? You know, I would never try to hurt your father, so why?” Mom wouldn't stop asking questions that even I could barely answer.
