Max felt immensely grateful when the car he was driving was finally parked safely in front of Vonda's apartment building. Considering how he had driven earlier; he had briefly thought that he might end up in the hospital instead of Vonda's unit.

But here Max was, right outside Vonda's apartment door. He rang the doorbell repeatedly as he spoke into the intercom.
